The EU might “respond swiftly and decisively” in response to what it deems “unwarranted” travel bans issued by the United States on five Europeans involved in fighting digital hatred and misinformation, an EU official has said.

EU Officials Decry US Action as ‘Intimidation’

Officials from Europe including the French president accused the US administration of “coercion and intimidation”, following the visa restrictions were placed on individuals that were at the heart of campaigns to enact laws governing American tech companies.

“For too long, ideologues in Europe have led coordinated campaigns to coerce US companies to punish American viewpoints they disagree with,” wrote the US secretary of state online. “The current administration will no longer tolerate such actions of censorship beyond its borders.”
